Who is Canvas?

Canvas is a network of believers who are dedicated to being the Church in the world. Canvas Atlanta desires to see the people of God mobilized to be the Church in the world, no matter what community they are a part of or their position in life.

Our desire is to be a catylst. We are all called to love and our prayer is that we play a small role in movement of people who are living out who they are called to be.

What is the focus of Canvas?

Oppression is a literal description of the state of the poor and marginalized while at the same time a metaphor for those who are spiritually repentant and understand their own powerlessness before the forces of evil in the world. Although every human being needs Christ’s liberation from oppression by the enemy of the soul, we see that Scripture consistently shows God acting in history to assist those who suffer physically and materially, and it is our intention to concentrate our efforts to that end as well.

We are about bridging suburbia to urban. Many families who live in suburban Atlanta have no idea about the suffering of the people who are just down the road. God has placed it on our hearts to not only raise awareness but to do something about poverty in the world, starting here in Atlanta. There are many ministries in Atlanta that are doing a great job providing resources to the poor and oppressed. As a community, we are committed to partnering with those ministries and developing ministries that will fill in any gaps that may be present in the process of bringing a family in poverty out of that poverty.

As a community, we are about healing; relational, emotional, and spiritual. In our individualistic culture, we have a “do it alone” mentality. The only problem with this mentality is that we cannot do it alone. We need each other. God created us for a relationship with himself and with creation. Sin separates us from God and from His creation. The healing power of Jesus has come to restore all of those relationships. It is His will for us to be His Hands and Feet in the world.

Canvas desires to mobilize people who are like minded to be the Church, to break out of their comfortable lives and live for the expansion of the Kingdom of Heaven.
